I’m running late, sorry, not entirely my bad this time

And another week has passed. Time flies when you’re running from one place to another! And whose fault is that? Mine of course. Luckily not everything has to be study-related, make sure your schedules include activities and events in no way linked to courses ;). There are movies to watch, careers to mold, tailored suits to wear, sports to do and info evenings and parties to get to!

Once again, take a look at the mini events’ calendar I formulated in the end of this, might come in handy as all events aren’t always available in English on the web.

KY-Sub’s info-evening

Monday 22th at KY (Yläkertsi, 3rd floor) at 6 PM. Ky-Sub is KY’s international subcommittee, in which you can get acquainted with different cultures. Sub organizes events for exchange students, international degree students and other students.

Tikelo movie screening @ Orion 22.9. at 19.00

Tikelo’s first screening of the fall is a quality finnish drama and Finland’s Oscar nominee “Tummien Perhosten Koti” (The Home of Dark Butterflies). A rough story of an orphan who faces the cruelty of his peers at children’s home on an isolated island. Movie is presented at Orion (Eerikinkatu 15) on 22nd of September at 19:00. Enjoy the comfort of friends. It’s FFA(Free for All). Unfortunately, English sub titles weren’t available this time, apologies. You’re welcome to watch anyway.

Next Monday, 29.9., Tikelo will be having their info evening and movie evening starting at 5 p.m. More info coming up!

Working in Finland Tuesday 23.9. at 6 p.m. @ KY 3rd floor

What is it like to work in Finland? Who can you ask for more information? Come over and find out! We’ll offer presentations, interesting guest speakers from AIESEC, HSE Career Services, Outokumpi and Management Events, snacks and refreshments. Dresscode smart casual.

In need of a tailored suit?

Now is your chance to get an inexpensive tailored suit! C is for cheap and C is for class. For measurements come to KY, Marskin kabinetti, on Thursday the 25th of September between 15 and 17. Please bring 150 eur in cash for advance payment.

Rowing race 25.9. 2 p.m. @ Rowing stadium (Merikannontie 4)

If you’re interested in competing, gather a team of 11 members and sign up for the event at HSE’s lobbey on 23rd of September at 12 and 14 breaks. Participation cost of 55 eur will be paid by the captain. Few places left! More info: liikunta@kyweb.fi!

Seilorikuntis aka Rowing Race after party @ Lux (Kamppi) Thursday from 9 p.m.

Everyone deserves to relax after a hard day of rowing or cheering or whatever excuse you can come up with to have a party Drinks are cheap, especially during happy hour between 21-22. Be there!

International Week in Cologne, Germany 8.-16.11.2008

Now you have a great opportunity to experience international atmosphere, events and visits and also get new fri¬ends in Cologne, Germany.

The organizer describes their week like this: ”We organized an interesting, exciting and diverse program for you, including great cultural events, company visits and an excursion to the beautiful Rhine Valley and - of course - a lot of partying! We are especially pleased to invite you to participate in the opening of the carnival season on 11.11.2008 at 11:11 a.m.!!! You will be hosted by one of our nice club members in the central area of Cologne close to the University and the club office which will be our main meeting point. “

The Educational Committee will choose two students based on written applications. Students who have not taken part before have a priority in the selection process. The other criteria are motivation, a positive attitude, interest in the culture and the country in question and enthusiasm to represent KY abroad.

KY will cover 25% of your travel expen¬ses, and housing, food and other costs are practically free. Please send your application to international(a)kyweb.fi by Friday 26.9. @ noon.

Esport Fitness

Remember that as a member of KY you can use the sport subventions. Till 30th September you join Esport Fitness for free. The fee is normally 50 eur. Remember to show your student card or the receipt of the membership fee with the stamp. Esports are loca¬ted in Helsinki (Salomonkatu 1) and in Tapiola, Espoo, (Koivu Mankkaan tie 3). Do you want to learn a new language or learn to speak better English while getting a new friend? This is your chance!

KY’s Each One Teach One – Programme is a fabulous opportunity to improve your language skills. KY pairs you up with a Finnish student who is also interested in learning your language or speaking more English. You’ll get your pair’s e-mail address and after that, you can meet your new friend whenever it suits you best.

Sign up now! E-mail laura.koistinen@student.hse.fi by Monday 22th of September, and tell her which language(s) you would like to learn and respectively which you can teach. Take a risk, get to know us Finns and our crazy language!

Lost ’n found

Any items lost in the KY events and parties during this summer and fall can be collected from the KY office until the end of September. Opening times are Mon–Thu 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Fri 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
