Postgraduate students will no longer have access to the services of the Finnish Student Health Service (YTHS) as of 1 August 2009.

Grants from the Special Fund for International Exchange 2009

The Student Council decided about the KY Special Fund for International Exchange grants in their meeting May 26th 2009. Student Council decided to award grant to 285 applicants altogether 195 641 euros. The list of the grants will be published here.

KY office closed June 4 and 5

KY office is closed on Thursday June 4 and on Friday June 5. Also the housing office will be closed on those dates.

Time has changed: International week in Ukraine is 27.09-4.10.

On of the parts of the international weeks is, that you have an opportunity to visit places  where you would’t orherwise necessarily travel. Ukraine IW is held in Lviv, which is picturesque city, with its narrow streets and renaissance buildings. In 1998 it has received a UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE designation. No more tickets available to the Wappu Party at Kaivohuone!

All tickets to the party of the Wappu eve 30.4. are sold. It is no more possible to buy tickets at the venue.

Wappu Reminder

yo-lakki_120×131.jpgWappu, the biggest student event of the year is coming tomorrow. Forget about the exams for a while, this might the last chance to see your pals before summer season. So come and enjoy it to the fullest, Wappu is after all only once a year!

On the May Day eve 30.4. the celebration begins by KUJ at Pre-Manta in KY, Alakertsi (tickets 6€) while NESU-KY ensures taht the whole Pohjoinen Rautatiekatu in front of the KY house will be filled with chillin’ economics students.

At six everybody gathers to Kauppatori to see Manta get her student cap. Be early, some other Helsinki residents might show up too. The real Wappu party opens in Kaivohuone at 7 p.m. and it goes on until 4 a.m. At the stage KY Funky Chairmen, Open Decks and Fintelligens (8/10 €).

On Friday tens of thousands of students enjoy a massive picnic in sunny Kaivopuisto. Make sure to find KY spot there to win some extraordinary prizes. In the evening there is no better place to go than Casa right next to KY (at 9 p.m. to 3 a.m.).

The best dresscode for the weekend is overalls, but note that some bars do not like to let in any drunk students in overalls, so plan your route/dress accordingly. Shops are closed on Friday, so remember to get your picnic servings in advance.

KY office will be open until 12 p.m. on April 30 and closed on May 1.

The first Representative Council election of the Aalto University Student Union was elected

The elections for the first Representative Council of the Aalto University Student Union (AYY) ended on Wednesday April 22. 45 members were elected for the period from August 1 2009 to December 31 2011. The Representative Council is the highest decision-making body of the Student Union.

According to the preliminary results the Electoral Alliances that got the most positions, 5 each, were Luova Liitto and iThink. Avainrengas got the most votes of the Electoral Circles with 13 positions, followed by Jämerä (12 positions) and Ratas (11 positions). Pipsa Penttinen received the highest number (80) of personal votes. Continue reading »

The cultural committee recommends that you buy yourself the official Wappu wrist band (20€) that allows you to participate in every event of the Wappu week 27.4.-1.5.
